ABOUT THE KITCHEN

Salt City Test Kitchen (SCTK) meets a big need for Syracuse's home cooks, caterers and food entrepreneurs:

Clean, convenient, affordable and fully equipped kitchen and event space available for hourly rental, 24/7, 365 day a year.

5 years ago, this space opened up under the name 'With Love.'  Funded by a TAACCCT grant and overseen by OCC, With Love Restaurant would incubate and showcase a new Entrepreneur in Residence every 6 months, sharing their national or regional cuisine.  From 2016 - 2020, With Love hosted some incredible culinary experiences:

Entrepreneurs in Residence got hands-on experience building a menu and running a restaurant. They also learned how to build a business through Start It, a 12-week business development class.  (This class is now held in both spring and fall at the Salt City Market and makes for a great option for anyone renting SCTK and looking to grow and refine every aspect of their business.)  

With Love closed in March 2020. Through generous crowdfunding by Community Plates, vendors from Salt City Market took over the space and cooked around the clock for months, providing nearly 20,000 meals for neighbors facing food insecurity during an unprecedented public health crisis.  

Salt City Test Kitchen continues the legacy of community engagement, celebrating culture and giving entrepreneurs space to test out a concept, build their practice and make money doing what they 💓

The forward kitchen space is equipped with a fully functional prep kitchen:

  • Prep Tables (3x)

  • Surround sound music system

  • Ice machine

  • Convection Oven

  • Waiter station

The back kitchen is equipped with:

  • 12 burner range

  • 2 standard ovens

  • 1 convection oven

  • 1 flattop (griddle)

  • 1 two-bay fryer

  • 1 char-coal grill.

  • Additional equipment included:

  • 1 stand mixer

  • 1 robo-coupe food processor

  • 3 three-door lowboy coolers

  • 1 two-door freezer

  • 1 large walk-in refrigerator in the basement

  • 1 chest freezer in the basement

  • 1 rice cooker

  • 1 ice cream maker

  • All sizes of pots, pans, tongs, whisks, measuring cups and spoons!
